This is the best book I read so far. At first thought this book is irrelevant since 1984 was 33 years ago,but this is a classic I am reading. Winston Smith, the protogonist, is an editor in the ministry of truth of Oceania, a totalitarian superpower of post ww2 Europe. Under this regime he lives a depressed and oppressed life. He started a journal against the regime in secret, and if he is caught by the telescreen, he will be executed. He acquinted with a girl  Julia and they become lovers. Getting bravet he contacted O Brien, a brotherhood member, who give him a resistance manifesto. But Brien is a double agent of the regime. Winston is caught and tortured in room 101 where he is fed with his greaterst fear , rats , forcing him to implicate Julia , " Do it to Julia" This is the confession Brien wants and Winston was released and became a party member , but a destroyed man.
